What Grill to Choose: Where Will You Use Your Grill?

What Grill to Choose?

Here's another question that can save you from buying the wrong grill:

Where is this grill actually going to live?

Your answer might be the backyard, a patio, a balcony, Or it might spend most of its life in the trunk of your car.

Those are very different situations.

Backyard Grilling

If you have a large backyard and plenty of storage space, you have more options.

A full-size grill can make sense if you regularly cook for your family or entertain guests.

You don't have to worry as much about moving it, either.

For many backyard grillers, cooking area and convenience become the biggest considerations.

Patio or Terrace

A patio gives you more flexibility, but space still matters.

Before buying a grill, measure the area where you intend to use and store it.

And don't forget the space around the grill.

A grill shouldn't simply “fit.” You need enough room to operate it safely and keep it away from things that could catch fire.

What About a Balcony?

This is where you need to slow down.

A balcony can be a convenient place for outdoor cooking, but local building rules, fire regulations, landlord policies and ventilation all matter.

And charcoal combustion produces carbon monoxide.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission specifically warns never to use charcoal grills indoors, in garages, tents, campers or other enclosed spaces.

YANFLAMMA's product information similarly describes the grill as designed for outdoor use and says that any use in a balcony or similar location must be well ventilated.

So “balcony grill” should never mean “charcoal grill indoors.”

Always check the rules that apply to your specific location.

Camping Changes Everything

When you're camping, a 70-pound backyard grill suddenly doesn't look very attractive.

Portability becomes important.

You have to think about:

  • Weight
  • Size
  • Fuel
  • Setup
  • Storage
  • Transport
  • Cooking capacity

A portable grill doesn't necessarily have to be tiny.

It simply needs to be practical enough to move to where you want to cook.

YANFLAMMA weighs about 6.7 kg, with a height of about 42 cm and an outside diameter of about 40 cm, making portability one of its intended characteristics.

Tailgating and Outdoor Adventures

The same principle applies to tailgating, picnics and outdoor gatherings.

Think beyond cooking performance.

Ask:

Can I actually bring this grill with me?

Can I set it up without a huge amount of work?

Where will I store it afterward?

A grill that performs beautifully but is too inconvenient to move may end up being used much less than you expected.

The Location Should Help You Choose

Here's the simple way I'd think about it:

Large backyard: prioritize cooking capacity and features.

Small patio: balance capacity with footprint.

Camping: prioritize portability and setup.

Frequent outdoor travel: think about weight, fuel and storage.

Balcony: check local rules first, then consider ventilation and the grill's intended use.

Where you cook is not a minor detail.

It can completely change which grill makes sense.
